Other Paces of Interest in the Local Area

The Costa Blance is alive with places of interest, many of which are only a short drive from Torrevieja.  We have listed below some places which we think are worth a visit during your stay (if you can find time after the many other pursuits on offer!).

Murcia    A modern commercial city, visited for monuments and shopping. The cathedral and its baroque façade is a favourite. Other things to look out for are the Roman Theatre, Santa Catalina Square, the Palace of Almundi, Paseo de Malecón, the Casino Ballroom, the Episcopal Palace, the City Hall and the Esplanada de España.

Cabo de Palos    This quaint little fishing port, situated in a sheltered cove, is certainly worth visiting. Just wander around at leisure, looking at the fishing boats, stopping for a drink, a tapa or a meal at one of the many fine quayside restaurants.  Walk up to the lighthouse and enjoy the view along La Manga strip and watch the waves crashing on the rocks down below.

Calblanque    A nature reserve which forms part of the Calblanque Protected Natural Area with its long sandy beach on the coast between La Manga strip and the golf club.  It's well worth the 10 minute drive (2km) by dirt track.

Mar Menor    A 130 km² inland sea contained by a narrow strip of land (sand bar) separating it from the Mediterranean. The lagoon cannot be entirely circumnavigated by car as the sand bar is broken at its Northern end. The protected lagoon is ideal for all kinds of watersports and its warm waters and shallow depth make it an ideal holiday spot for the whole family. The villages on its perimeter, San Pedro del Pinatar, Santiago de le Ribera, San Javier, Los Alcázares, Los Urrutias and the town of La Manga are worth exploring. The town of La Manga is built on the sand bar, which is 22km long and only 200m wide in places.

Cartagena    This ancient naval town is set in a magnificent sheltered bay. The best views can be obtained from the Castle la Concepción in the Parque Torres.  Look out for the ancient lighthouse called La Linterna on the way. Other interesting sights are the Casa Cervantes, the Gran Hotel, the Arsenal, the Town Hall, the City walls, the palace of Pedreño, and Isaac Peral's submarine.

Elche    A town near Alicante famous for its palm tree plantations which are claimed to be the largest in the world.  Visit the beautiful gardens 'Huerta del Cura' and see the unique seven trunked 'Imperial Palm'.  The Palm Sunday processions are justifiably famous.

Lorca    A city of monuments, with the old city centred around the Plaza de España.  The number of family coats of arms on the walls of nobles houses is striking.  The City Hall dates back to the 17th and 18th Century and was first used as a prison.  Other interesting monuments are the St Patrick's Collegiate Church, the Palace of Guevara, the Guevara Theatre and the Roman milestone. The 13th - 15th Century Moorish Castle dominates the city from its location above the city.

Andalucia   Is Spain's original Moorish kingdom, located to the southwest of La Manga. The town of Mojacar and the city of Almería are both situated on the coastal road through Andalucia.  The cave town of Guadix and Granada, famous for the Alhambra Palace, are the nearest cities on the inland route.

Terra Mitica has everything to offer from rides, shows, restaurants and shops, there is fun guaranteed for everyone.

There´s plenty of thrills and excitement for you to enjoy together all day long
